Using the Interaction Editor

The Interaction Editor is used to define most interaction types, including Gap Text, Radio Sets, Drop Down Menus (example shown), Drag Drop sets and the Highlighter tool.

The Toolbar includes:

OK and Cancel buttons.
Scramble option which randomizes the order of the options
Out Of edit field where the scoring for the question can be edited.
All but the Highlight interaction have a Graded check box to tell the system whether to grade this question.


Several interaction types have additional properties that can be accessed from the Toolbar.

When checked, the options in the drop-down menu will appear in a random order. If unchecked, the options will appear in the order listed in the editor.

Choose how the user’s text entered into the gap text should be compared with the listed answers.

Sets the maximum number of items that can dropped into the target.


Shows a drop targets that is inline with the text.

Feedback icons appear either beside the target (if Feedback on Target), or beside each drag (if Feedback on Drags). 



The Table is where you set the correct answers and add labels and feedback.


Note: Although the Table is similar for all interaction types there are some differences. To see these differences refer to the page dedicated to that interaction type.


Interaction Text

The first row of the table contains the interaction label and default feedback texts.


The interaction label is usually displayed to the left or above the interaction in learner mode. Using the radio buttons beside the label in the Interaction Editor, you can choose to hide the label. The interaction label will also appear in any Module summary report that the user creates.


The interaction feedback for a given option can be customized as follows.

If the feedback text is left unchanged (displayed in grey), the global default texts are used. In the example shown above, the Negative and Unanswered feedback texts shown in grey are the global defaults.


If you specify text on the first row with the interaction label, then this text gets used for each answer of the question. In the example, the positive feedback is set to “Correct!” for the question. If the user selects “Blue,” the feedback text will be “Correct!”


If you specify text on a specific row, it will get used if that answer is selected. In the example, the incorrect answer “Yellow” will display the specific feedback “No, but the sun is yellow,” whereas the incorrect answer “Green” will display the (global) default, “That is not correct.”

Note: Marks Awarded:
You’ll probably want to set the Out Of field (on the Interaction Editor toolbar) to the number of correctly-checked answers of Check Box Sets.  For most interaction types, Out Of will probably be 1.  Interactions such as Capture Image automatically have Out Of = 0
